Mutagenic effectiveness, efficiency and dose optimization of gamma rays in papaya (Carica papaya L.) varieties

The present study was conducted to determine the mutagenic effectiveness, efficiency and lethal dose of gamma rays in papaya varieties CO7, Arka Prabhath Surya. Papaya seeds were exposed various doses (0Gy, 100Gy, 150Gy, 200Gy, 250Gy, 300Gy, 350Gy, 400Gy, 450Gy 500Gy) effectiveness assessed based on chlorophyll mutation frequency biological damage M1 plant basis. There a negative relationship between with irradiation. LD50 value optimized Surya as 354, 348 341Gy respectively. Generally, germination, survival growth rate decreased an increase gamma-irradiation doses. Lower mutations created very few higher irradiation induced lethality sterility seedlings whereas, 50 has  proved be more effective inducing desirable papaya. Since identifying mutagen optimization is preliminary step any experiment, this will offer foundation for further studies develop mutants. Keywords: Papaya, Gamma rays, Mutagenic efficiency,
